Frequently Asked Questions

Aside from the quality of the product and the reputation of the manufacturer, you will want to consider the list of the most important specifications for a motorized vertical translation stage including load capacity, travel range, max height reached, motor torque, weight, accuracy, repeatability, and parallelism. While not exhaustive, this will narrow down the list of potential candidates.

Once you find what you are looking for, simply navigate onto that product page and contact the respective supplier directly.

They find applications in any setting where a precise vertical positioning in space is required. This includes spectroscopic measurements, laser holographic writing, bio-medical experiments and instrumentation, laser crystal alignment, insertion and removal of an optical element into an optical setup and more.

Most motorized stages come with a stepping motor that require DC5~24V of power supply, but it of course varies from model to model. You should consult the specification data sheet for details or inquire from the supplier.

The price on these stages varies significantly from model to model depending on their size, build quality travel range and more. On the low end you might be able to procure these stages for under $1,000, whereas on the high end the price can ran up to several thousand dollars.

If the footprint is not an issue you can use a linear motorized stage with a 90 degree angle bracket. You should of course consult the specification sheet of that stage to ensure the vertical load capacity (when turning the stage by 90 degrees) can handle the load of your specific application.

Did You know?

Vertical Motorized Stages, also known as “motorized lab jacks”, “motorized z-jacs”, or “motorized vertical translation stages” are positioning devices that allow precise height adjustment in space. They usually come with an onboard controller and standard connections to easily be integrated into larger systems. The key parameters to consider when selecting a vertical motorized stage are the load capacity, travel range, max speed of travel, torque of the motor, voltage requirements, repeatability, accuracy and weight. While this list is not exhaustive these parameters are some of the key ones that will help you narrow down to the right product quickly. Vertical Motorized Stages find numerous applications requiring automation of vertical positioning and repositioning. This includes metrology, laser holography writing, laser alignment, spectroscopy, and bio-medical experiments. On FindLight, you can find motorized vertical translation stages from several global suppliers. You can quickly reach out to the respective suppliers directly and inquire about pricing, or technical specifications.
