Frequently Asked Questions

The SLED Butterfly Device is used in applications such as fiber-optic gyroscopes, optical testing, optical fiber transmission systems, fiber-optic sensors, and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT).

The key features include high power output, metal-coupled and hermetic package, TEC inside, and options for polarization-maintaining or single-mode optical fiber. It is available in an 8-pin or 6-pin butterfly package.

At 25°C, the optical output power ranges from 0.2 to 3.0 mW, forward voltage is typically 1.2 V, center wavelength ranges from 1290 to 1330 nm, and bandwidth FWHM is between 30 to 40 nm. Other parameters include spectral ripple of 0.1 dB and polarization extinction ratio of 1 dB.

The maximum ratings include an operating case temperature range of -45 to 75°C, storage temperature range of -55 to 85°C, reverse voltage of 2.0 V, forward current of 120 mA, thermoelectric cooler voltage of 3.0 V, and current of 1.5 A.

The laser module is ESD-sensitive, so proper ESD handling procedures should be followed to prevent damage.

For the 8-pin package, pins are configured as follows: 1-TEC(+), 2-Thermistor, 3-Thermistor, 4-SLD(+), 5-SLD(-), 6-N/C, 7-N/C, 8-TEC(-). For the 6-pin package: 1-SLD(+), 2-SLD(-), 3-Thermistor, 4-Thermistor, 5-TEC(-), 6-TEC(+).

Ordering options include different wavelengths, output powers, encapsulation and fiber selections, connectors, and pin configurations. For example, fiber options include SM Fiber, BTF6/125 SM Fiber, and BTF6/80 PM Fiber, while connector options include FC/APC and FC/UPC.
