Frequently Asked Questions

A polarization maintaining (PM) patch cord is a fiber optic cable built with polarization maintaining panda fiber and connectorized with FC/UPC or FC/APC connectors. It is designed to maintain the polarization of light over its length.

The PM patch cord can be equipped with FC/UPC, SC/UPC, FC/APC, or SC/APC connectors.

The key features include high extinction ratio, low insertion loss, default key alignment to the slow axis, and availability in cable diameters of 250um, 900µm, 2.0mm, and 3.0mm.

Typical applications include switching, EDFAs, coherent optical communications, integrated optics, high-speed transmission devices, external modulators, and interferometric sensors.

The extinction ratio is greater than 23dB for narrow key connectors and greater than 20dB for wide key connectors.

The PM patch cord can handle a maximum optical power of 300mW.

The operating temperature range is -20 to +70°C, and the storage temperature range is -40 to +85°C.
