Frequently Asked Questions

Traditional spherical lenses cannot collimate light effectively because even small angles of incidence can produce spherical aberrations. Aspheric lenses have a non-spherical surface that allows a single component to effectively focus or collimate even highly divergent emissions.

Aspheric lenses can potentially replace a multi-lens system with a single aspheric lens, reducing the number of components required. They can also effectively correct spherical aberration and collimate light.

Custom aspheric lenses are available in a range of sizes as small as 2mm diameter up to 100mm or greater.

Aspheric lenses may be AR coated for UV/VIS/NIR. Special AR coatings are also available on stock lenses.

Aspheric lenses are used to correct spherical aberration in lasers and imaging.
