Fresnel Lenses were developed by French physicist Augustin-Jean Fresnel for lighthouses. A lighthouse uses a concept similar to a telescope, but works in exactly the opposite way with the help of a Fresnel lens. The Fresnel lens actually limits the amount of material required in comparison to a conventional lens by dividing the lens into a set of concentric annular sections. There are two main types of Fresnel lenses: imaging and non-imaging. Fresnel Lenses can be applied in Imaging, Photography, Illumination, Projection and Solar Power.
