Description
The Erbium Glass doped with Er3+, Yb3+, and Cr3+ serves as a significant advancement in laser technology, providing a coherent light source in the spectral range near 1.5 µm. This wavelength is particularly notable for being relatively safe for the human eye, making it advantageous in various fields. The innovation of this erbium-doped glass laser finds its use in lidar systems, range measurements, fiber-optic communication, and laser surgery, showcasing its versatility and importance in modern technology.
Despite the advancements in InGaAs laser diode pump sources, the traditional Xe flashlamp remains a reliable and cost-effective choice for pumping Er:glass lasers. The simplicity of design and high reliability of Xe flashlamps continue to make them a preferred option. Interestingly, about half of the flashlamp's radiation energy is emitted in the visible and near-infrared ranges. To maximize the utilization of this energy, a second sensitizer, Cr3+, is introduced into Yb-Er laser glasses, enhancing the overall efficiency and performance of the system.
This erbium glass technology is meticulously crafted to meet precise specifications, ensuring optimal performance. The orientation tolerance is maintained at less than 0.5°, while the thickness and diameter tolerance are kept within ±0.05 mm. The surface flatness is controlled at <λ/4@632 nm, ensuring minimal wavefront distortion. Furthermore, the surface quality is maintained at <λ/8@632 nm with a perpendicular measurement of 10-5 (MIL-O-13830A). The product boasts a clear aperture of over 90%, with maximum dimensions ranging from 3 to 12.7 mm in diameter and 3 to 150 mm in length.
