Description
PCA-40 high voltage capacitor charger is a high-frequency switch-mode converter, which transforms AC input to regulated high voltage DC output to charge capacitors. It was developed for the use in pumping systems of flashlamp-pumped solid-state laser devices.
PCA-40 is the most powerful modification of the PCA-series. Its maximum output power is 4000 W, so it is the best one for use in laser systems of high power like Long pulse Nd:YAG, Long pulse Alexandrite, 40-80 W Ho:YAG. The module is suitable to operate in parallel.
Several variants of PCA-40 are offered with different maximum output voltage level (Vmax), selected from 300 V to 2000 V at the moment of order. Higher output voltages are available on request. During operation an output voltage level can be chosen in working range (0 V – Vmax) by user, applying a DC voltage to the respective pin.
The actual output power depends on relation between actual operating voltage and Vmax. We would recommend to pick Vmax as close as possible to your operating voltage in order to utilize completely the output power of the device.
By default, modules are optimized for partial discharge applications. Complete discharge modifications are available on request.
The capacitor charger is intended to be used for medical purposes, in medical laser equipment. All the device parameters meet the latest versions of medical standards requirements: IEC 60601-1:2005/AMD1:2012 for electrical safety and IEC 60601-1-2:2014 for EMC, so, PCA‑40 can be used in medical systems without any modifications, any additional filtration or additional means of protection.
High reliability and efficiency, easy to integrate OEM design and a lot of flexible parameters for customized solutions allows PCA-series to be used in wide variety of applications, both medical and industrial.

Frequently Asked Questions
The PCA-40 is a capacitor charging module designed for use in medical equipment. It is classified as CLASS I ME EQUIPMENT and requires protective grounding.
The equipment must be protectively grounded to avoid electrical shock. It should only be used within medical equipment that can electrically isolate its circuits from the supply mains on all poles simultaneously. Additionally, the enclosure should not be opened as there are no user-serviceable parts.
If you are unsure about the application or have questions regarding reverse polarity, you should contact the manufacturer for details.
No, the PCA-40 module is not suitable for use in the presence of a flammable anesthetic mixture with air or oxygen.
