With operating rates exceeding 250 MHz, our AO deflectors deliver exceptional performance, making them ideal for material processing, digital imaging, and more.
Incredible Accuracy at Incredible Speeds
Our AO deflectors resolve hundreds to thousands of spots within just a few degrees, enabling scan times as fast as a few microseconds. The total number of resolvable spots is determined by the acoustic wave's traversal time across the optical beam within the AO crystal (known as access time) and the operating frequency bandwidth.
Wavelength Coverage and Scan Angles
Our AO deflectors provide comprehensive wavelength coverage from 266 nm to 10.6 µm, with typical scan angles ranging from ~5 mrad to >60 mrad, depending on the wavelength and RF bandwidth. These capabilities ensure flexibility for diverse laser beam scanning requirements.
Highly Uniform Diffraction Efficiency
Whether performing 1D or 2D beam scanning or deflecting a beam through a fixed angle, our AO deflectors deliver highly uniform diffraction efficiency across the full scan angle. This ensures consistent power throughput, critical for high-precision applications.

The acousto-optical deflector enables a wide range of deflection angles of incoming laser beams to first order. The deflection angle changes proportionally with the applied frequency. The requirements for a deflector are typically characterised by the number of points that can be displayed, the tuning range (RF) and the resulting deflection angle, the minimum diffraction efficiency that can be achieved, the wavelength and the beam parameters.
