Description
The 9879B Photomultiplier Tube is a high-performance device designed for precision applications requiring sensitive detection of low-light signals. This 51mm (2”) diameter photomultiplier features an S20 infra-red sensitive photocathode mounted on a sandblasted borosilicate window, which enhances cathode sensitivity. The tube is equipped with 12 beryllium copper (BeCu) dynodes arranged in a linear focused design, ensuring excellent linearity and timing characteristics.
With a spectral range of 290 to 870 nm, the 9879B is optimized for detecting light across a broad spectrum, where its quantum efficiency exceeds 1% of the peak value. This makes it ideal for applications requiring high sensitivity and precise measurement, such as film scanning and pollution monitoring. The photomultiplier's construction enables high pulsed linearity and low afterpulsing, ensuring reliable and consistent performance in demanding environments.
The device is characterized by its robust design, which includes a nominal anode sensitivity of 500 A/lm and a maximum rated anode sensitivity of 2000 A/lm. It operates efficiently with an overall voltage of 1750 to 2200 V for nominal sensitivity, and up to 2000 V for maximum rated sensitivity. The 9879B also features a low dark current and dark count rate, which are critical for maintaining accuracy in low-light conditions. With a weight of just 130g, this photomultiplier is a versatile component suitable for integration into various scientific and industrial systems.
