Description
EQ Photonics offers a large number of different SLEDs in cooled butterfly or TO packages. The superluminescent diode emission ranges from 1200 – 1700 nm.
On one hand SLDs are broadband light sources (typically 50 nm) with a low temporal coherence, as is known for LEDs. On the other hand superluminescent diodes have a high brightness (power) and a high spatial coherence – comparable to lasers.
This makes them particularly suitable for applications that require a high beam quality (including coupling into single-mode fibers), but do not tolerate any disruptive interference effects (speckle-free).
Enabled by DensePICTM spread spectra bandgap engineering technology, future generations of DenseLight SLEDs promise higher chip powers (up to 50mW possible), and broader spectral bands (beyond 120nm). Higher levels of integration may feature integrated SLEDs with phase modulators, optical couplers and photodetectors into a complete optical sensor chipset.
