Littrow Dispersing Prisms (LDP)
Lambda Research Optics
Littrow prisms are retro-reflecting Brewster prisms. They are arranged to that a beam entering at the Brewster angle falls normal to the flat surface and is reflected back along the same path. They are useful in laser cavities where the wavelength of the return beam can be selected by tilting the prism slightly. In this way the gain ...

Data Sheet
Littrow Prisms are of the same design as Brewster prisms but cut in half vertically from the apex to the base. They are normally used in a laser cavity or prism spectrometer to select a particular wavelength. In general, the beam is incident on the hypotenuse and is reflected back from the rear surface. It exits from the hypotenuse ...

Data Sheet
Brewster Prisms are designed to have an apex angle such that a p-polarized ray incident at Brewster’s angle will pass through the prism parallel to the base at minimum deviation, and exit also at Brewster’s angle. In this case surface reflection losses are negligible. Brewster Prisms are often used in situations where surface ...

Littrow prisms by STANDA. Littrow prisms usually are 30 – 60 – 90 deg prisms. The uncoated Littrow prism can disperse white light into its spectrum; the coated Littrow prism diverts the beam at a 60 deg angle without inverting or reversing the image. Littrow prisms can also be used as retro-reflecting ...

Did You know?

Littrow prisms are used in applications where a minimum deviation and a maximum dispersion of the incident beam are required. These prisms are typically made of UV fused silica and feature moderate loss for p-polarized beams. Thanks to these properties they are frequently used in laser cavities (to fine tune the laser by wavelength selection) and in spectrographs in conjunction with diffraction gratings. Because of their unique applications the accuracy of Littrow Prisms, which is defined by the precision of their angles, is an important consideration.
