Did You know?

Laser Crystals play the role of active gain medium, aka lasing medium, in solid state lasers. They are used to generate the output of a laser by various optical pumping techniques. Examples of laser media based upon crystals include rare earth ion doped crystals such as Nd:YAG or transition metal ion doped crystals such as Ti:Sapphire, and more. Nd:YAG or similar crystals have high damage threshold and are commonly used in pulsed nanosecond lasers with Q-switching, Ti:Sapphire has a large emission bandwidth and as such is best suited for ultrafast lasers and amplifiers.
