Temperature Probes
Did You Know?
Workers in the oil exploration industry utilize temperature probes to monitor drill bit temperature, preventing overheating and breakage of the drill bit as it progresses deep down into the earth. Temperature probes are fiber-based thermal sensing devices that measure changes in temperature-sensitive characteristics, such as voltage difference or resistance, to infer a temperature value. There are several different categories of temperature probes including penetration probes, immersion probes, air probes, surface probes, along with numerous types of specialized probes. Today, many of these devices are able to operate within a large temperature range, about -70 to 275 degrees Celsius, which is one reason they find an extensive array of applications in many different industries.
