FindLight recently attended W3+ Fair Jena, bringing our team to one of Germany’s most important centers for optics and photonics. The event provided an opportunity to connect with companies across the photonics industry, meet buyers looking for optical and photonic equipment, and speak with vendors about their products and capabilities.
As part of our participation, FindLight was also proud to sponsor W3+ Fair Jena, supporting an event that brings together companies, researchers, engineers, and technology professionals from optics, photonics, electronics, precision engineering, and related fields.

Connecting with Buyers and Photonics Vendors
One of the highlights of the event was the opportunity to meet directly with both sides of the photonics marketplace.
Throughout the fair, the FindLight team spoke with buyers searching for photonics equipment and components, as well as manufacturers, suppliers, and technology companies showcasing their products and capabilities. These conversations provided valuable insight into the types of products buyers are looking for and the challenges companies face when sourcing specialized photonics equipment.
For FindLight, events such as W3+ Fair are particularly valuable because they bring together the two communities that our marketplace is designed to connect: companies that need specialized photonics products and the vendors that manufacture and supply them.
Meeting these companies in person also provides an opportunity to better understand their products, applications, and markets, helping us continue to expand the range of photonics equipment available through FindLight.
Sponsoring W3+ Fair Jena
FindLight was pleased to participate not only as an exhibitor and attendee, but also as an event sponsor.
W3+ Fair has become a meeting point for companies and professionals working across optics, photonics, electronics, precision engineering, and related technologies. Sponsoring the event gave FindLight an opportunity to support this community while increasing our visibility among companies that are actively developing, manufacturing, purchasing, and using photonics technologies.
For a marketplace focused on making specialized photonics products easier to discover and source, being part of this community is particularly meaningful.
Jena: Germany’s “Optics Valley”
The setting for W3+ Fair Jena is especially appropriate. Jena is widely associated with Germany’s optics and photonics industry and is sometimes described as the “Optics Valley” of Germany.
The city is home to a remarkable concentration of optical and photonics companies, including SCHOTT, ZEISS, and Jenoptik, along with numerous smaller companies, specialized suppliers, research organizations, and technology startups.
Jena’s connection to optics goes back well beyond today’s photonics industry. The city played an important role in the development of modern optical science and precision optics during the 19th century. Carl Zeiss established his optical workshop in Jena, while physicist and optical scientist Ernst Abbe made major contributions to optical theory and microscopy while working in the city. Their work helped establish foundations for the optical industry that continues to characterize Jena today.
The city’s academic environment has also contributed to this ecosystem. Friedrich Schiller University Jena and local universities of applied sciences and research institutions have strong connections to optics, photonics, optical engineering, precision technology, and related scientific fields. The result is an ecosystem where industry, research, education, and specialized engineering companies are closely connected.
For anyone working in optics and photonics, visiting Jena offers a chance to see how deeply the technology is embedded in the identity of a city.
A Charming City in the Saale Valley
Beyond its importance to the optics industry, Jena was also a memorable place for our team to visit.
The city sits in the Saale Valley, surrounded by wooded hills and green landscapes. Its location gives Jena a distinctive character, combining the feel of a smaller historic German city with a surprisingly strong concentration of technology companies and research institutions.
Walking through Jena, it is easy to see the contrast between its history and its modern technology sector. Historic buildings and architecture dating back to the 19th century and earlier stand alongside modern university buildings, offices, laboratories, and technology facilities.
This combination makes Jena an interesting destination not only for professionals in optics and photonics, but also for anyone interested in the history and development of science and technology in Germany.
Looking Forward
Our participation in W3+ Fair Jena gave FindLight the opportunity to strengthen relationships within the photonics community, meet new companies, and better understand the needs of buyers and suppliers in the industry.
We appreciate everyone who stopped by to speak with our team and share their products, applications, and ideas with us. We also appreciate the organizers and fellow participants who helped make the event a productive and enjoyable gathering for the optics and photonics community.
As FindLight continues to connect buyers and vendors across the global photonics marketplace, we look forward to continuing these conversations — both online and at future industry events.
And while the business conversations were the main reason for our visit, Jena itself was certainly part of the experience. From its long history in optics to its beautiful setting in the Saale Valley, it is a city where the history of optical science and the future of photonics can be found side by side.
